Benjamin’s Trail NP XL 1500 is one of the new air rifles for 2010. It is a Nitrogen piston powered break barrel. This is the first break barrel Nitrogen piston we have tested and reviewed. The technology according to Benjamin reduces noise by 70 % an important consideration for the air shooter. It is quiet more than the Discovery that we tested and reviewed. I’m sighting the rifle in at ten yards and my consistency, less that I require. I can get two shots close to bull’s eye but the third is a flyer. To date I’m not comfortable with grouping. I’m using a homemade shooting bench with my Caldwell Solo Lead sled and the bench is not as stable as it could be. My son-in-law and one of my testers shot it and mentioned the movement. We both started getting better grouping when we took more time to steady the bench. I want to be able to free hand it and shoot consistent groups, this is definitely more difficult but necessary in the field. Instructions state you may have to take 100 shots until the gas piston breaks in. Currently we are over the 100 mark. I will keep you updated.

Review Discovery ..22 with air pump.
Benjamin Discovery 22 with pump is the first Air Rifle that we have tested. This is a serious piece of firepower. Air Guns particularly rifles are finding there way into gun cases all over the country. I sighted the Discovery from a bench rest at 60 feet, with a CenterPoint 3-12x44 scope. I did shoot without the scope, after a few adjustments was showing a nice grouping. The CenterPoint scope was an improvement but either way the Discovery 22 was incredibly accurate. The power comes from the pump, 2000-psi is the maximum, 900-fps and with a hollow point pellet cuts through a 5/8 inch of plywood like butter. The Discovery 22 is a single shot bolt action, weights just over 5 pounds, and converts to accommodate CO2 operation. If you have annoying rodents around the yard or just enjoy shooting year around the Discovery 22 with pump is a terrific selection.
Tip: Just above the trigger guard, counter sunk in the bottom of the Forearm is a visual fill level. You need to watch these levels when you use pump or CO2. Over filling will not improve the velocity.

Dual Fuel Compressed Air / CO2 Air Rifle
Trouble-free, highly accurate. Once it is filled, there is no pumping and no worry about the outdoor temperature. Just shoot until the gun needs to be refilled. The Discovery's 2000 psi fill level means almost anyone old enough to shoot this rifle will also be able to fill it from the hand pump that comes in the package.
Dual Fuel - An inexpensive CO2 adapter converts this rifle from compressed air to CO2 operation which makes it easy to fill from a standard paintball tank, offering more shots from a single fill. CO2 is excellent for indoor use or for outdoor casual plinking.
