Russell Outdoors sent eight pieces of Mossy Oak® Treestand® for testing and reviewing. The pieces are APXg2 Advanced Performance for Extremes Generation II. The Gale L4 Jacket, Gale L4 pant, Zephyr 1.3 jacket, Zephyr L3 pant, Tundra L2 top, Tundra L2, and Cyclone L5, and Cyclone L5 pant.
The APXg2 G II is a layering system you can wear one piece or a combination of pieces. Each one received testing at various times over a seven-month time line. The Tundra L2 and Tundra L2 pant both have Scent Stop and Dri-Power® features. Used as a baselayer, Chris Stinson wore the pant under neoprene waders and top for guiding fall fly-fisherman. Chris continued using each piece guiding Upland birds hunters.
The design of each piece has a specific purpose. The Zephyr L3 jacket and pant both are lightweight, with large pockets, articulated elbows, and knees excellent for the big game hunter. The Gale L4 jacket and pant with adjustable suspenders were outstanding and spent a number of days in the field.
The Cyclone L5 pant and jacket are waterproof, completely seam taped and a favorite of both Chris and me. The Cyclone jacket and pant belong in your backpack on trips to the hinterland.
We took advantage of each piece at various times and weather conditions. A combination of jackets, pants mixing and matching while deer hunting, waterfowl hunting, upland game, and everyday wear. We have no complaint with quality or fit. Russell Outdoors engineering and research on each piece is obvious. These folks are serious about there gear and we like what we have found.

The Gale L4 jacket and pant is fashioned as a mid/outer layer in the NEW APXg2 system.
Great as an outer layer in low precip conditions, alternatively, as a mid-layer in the five level systems. Multi-directional stretch fabric allows movement in any position without constriction. A DWR (Durable Water Repellant) treatment offers water resistant protection. This quiet abrasion resistant fabric with a textured fleece lining provides extreme comfort and excellent protection from wind exposure. Bonded zippers and pockets provide less stress area where stitching could degrade the structure of the fabric.

The ZEPHYR L3 jacket and pant can be worn as the third layer of the APXg2 system or as a stand-alone jacket and pant. The lightweight, multi-directional stretch, single-layer soft shell, fabric is soft and quiet. A DWR (Durable Water Resistant) treatment provides water and wind resistance with exceptional breathability. A great layering piece when high aerobic activity is planned.

Depending on external conditions, the TUNDRA L2 top and pant can be worn as a second layer or the only base layer. Key areas are double layered for enhanced wind resistance. Anti-microbial, Scent-Stop, and moisture management technology provide odor control in an undergarment style top and pant. Dri-Power, Russell’s moisture management technology wicks moisture away from the skin. Flatlock stitching reduces bulk along seam lines creating a chafe-free garment.

What do you think when you hear Cyclone? Lots of wind and water-right? An industry first, stretch fabric with waterproof breathable properties. Waterproof breathable fabrics keep water on the outside while allowing moisture to evaporate, keeping you comfortable and dry. The CYCLONE L5 jacket is designed as a waterproof breathable outer layer for the APXg2 system. Constructed with a 2 ½ layer, multi-directional stretch fabric; this jacket is lightweight, soft, quiet and comfortable. The construction of a 2 ½ layer fabric eliminates the need for any lining. A true outer layer of protection against wind and rain with a high performance 10MM/10MVTR membrane and waterproof zippers.
