We love the Yellowstone Fly Rods, but we broke the five wt. 6 wt. and eight wt. multiple times. All while fishing, the tips would normally be the culprit but we would get them replaced and use again. These are high modulus IM 8 Graphite Rods making them brittle and more likely to break. The rods are every responsive but its greatest strength is its greatest weakness. High modulus in a Fly Rod increases the graphite to store and release energy, this increases line and reaction speed. We would not normally tell you to try something that we have broken so often but Chris Stinson tells me that his fishing clients love the rods. By the end of the day, casting a Yellowstone Rod the client’s, especially novices, confidence is soaring because Rods are very responsive. These rods are fished an average of 250 days in a row. Our three testers work from May through September and the Yellowstone rods take a real beating. I personally have fished the Rods for months and none has broken while fishing, do not be chased away because the Yellowstone Rods we tested broke we normally break every Rod we test. Yellowstone Fly Rods warranty will replace your Rod if you happen to break.

We spoke with the folks at Yellowstone Fly rods and they relayed to us that they went through there entire inventory of Fly Rods. The report to us was revealing and informative, some of the tip pieces were sanded too thin making them prone to breakage.
